Amy Whitney San Francisco, California
Amy Whitney graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1987, and earned her law degree from Golden Gate University in 1995 (with highest honors). Ms. Whitney has been practicing law since 1996, and began her association with BRYAN • HINSHAW in 1998. Ms. Whitney practices primarily in the areas of probate and trust litigation, family law, and general civil litigation. Ms. Whitney has significant experience with complex property issues, such as questions of ownership in real property partition actions, trust and family law matters. Ms. Whitney particularly enjoys the challenges presented by complicated crossover cases in which family law (community property) issues are raised in the probate context, and cases involving tracing issues and valuation questions. Ms. Whitney is also experienced with high conflict cases involving family members, both in the family law and the probate context. Ms. Whitney attempts to creatively problem solve such matters by negotiation, when possible. However, a good portion of Ms. Whitney’s practice involves intractable conflict, in which the parties are unable to resolve the issues without court intervention. Ms. Whitney has developed a good sense of when the opposing will not respond to negotiation strategies, and when, unfortunately, the best recourse is to therefore to proceed to court.
